5th Grade Summer Reading List

GAC encourages all students to read during the summer. This suggested list for summer reading is not exclusive but attempts to provide choices for various reading abilities and interests. Students entering fifth grade should read 3 books minimum during the summer. 

REQUIREMENTS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

  1. Free choice.  Choose a book that is within your reading level worth a minimum of 3 AR points.  The following site provides the number of points specific titles are worth.
  2. Book from the Summer Book Club list.
  3. Required 5th grade novel study: Number the Stars by Lois Lowry should be read by all 5th graders before the first day of school. 

SUMMER READING SUGGESTION

  1. 2017 Summer Reading Suggestion List

Students will be expected to take an AR test on one of the required books when they return to school. There will be two dates this summer that students will be allowed to come to the Elementary Media Center and take AR tests on their summer reading if they wish. Coming during the summer to take AR tests is not required.  Students will also be given the opportunity take AR tests on a summer reading book during the first two weeks of school. Please use the GAC Summer Reading Log to list the title and author for all books read this summer. Parents, please sign this form and send it with your child on the first day of school. Get started reading!

Henderson Media Center Summer Hours

There will be two dates this summer (see below) that students will be allowed to come to the Elementary Media Center and take AR tests on their summer reading if they wish. Attending these dates is completely optional. They serve as practice for those students who are interested.
