6th Grade Summer Reading Challenge

Required for Students Entering 6th Grade


  1. Read Either Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper, or Drums, Girls, & Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick – take an A.R. test on the book you choose to read
  2. Read 1 book from Nonfiction List A – and complete a nonfiction navigator
  3. Read 1 book from Nonfiction List B – and complete a nonfiction navigator
  4. Read Chapters 1-10 of the book of Genesis from an adult NIV Bible – there will be an activity in your Bible class over this reading
  5. Read Inside Out and Back Again by Thanhha Lai – there will be an in-class activity over this book in your language Arts class

Complete your required reading challenge as listed above, then impress us by reading these 3 additional books listed below:

  1. Read 1 book from the 6th Grade Fiction List
  2. Read 1 book from Nonfiction List C
  3. Read 1 more book of your choice; with an Accelerated Reader point value of 8 or more

Pass an Accelerated Reader Test on each of these 3 books, and you will earn recognition and special privileges

 If you would like an opportunity to come in to get books, recommendations, ask questions, and take A.R. tests.

  1. June 14th 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
  2. June 29th 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm
  3. July 12th 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
  4. July 27th 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
  5. August 3rd 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm

 If these dates and times do not work for you, it will be fine to take any A.R. tests on the first day of school. Books checked out during summer are due back August 11th.
